I’ve picked this up here and its definitely worth a repost. I plan on using the advise and I would recommend that you make it part of your email protocol too as it all makes sense.
Robby Slaughter, the presenter of the summit shared his preferred method of reversing this process flow and the reasons behind each. I’m significantly paraphrasing but this is the basic premise.
- Attach files – how many times have you sent an email and forgotten to attach the files? Attaching the files first also reinforces the purpose of the email which will be important in the following steps.
- Write Body – The body of the message in this case with attached files should be a simple statement of what action you would like the recipient to take on the attached files. Should they review them, are they to be printed for the upcoming seminar? State specifically what you want the reader to do in your email.
- Write Subject – Write the subject after the body because it should be a simple, stripped-down restatement of the body of the message. Clear and concise with key words at the beginning of the subject.
- Select Recipients – Choosing the recipients last performs a couple of helpful functions. First, if an email doesn’t have a recipient specified, you can’t accidentally send the email without the attachments or pausing long enough to make sure you actually want to hit “Send” on that email laced with your frustrations. Secondly, if you wait till the end you can further clarify exactly who needs to be included based on the actions and requested tasks specified in the email.

So the advise is simple. Use it, dont use it!
PS. I usually don’t reuse content and I apologise for doing so with this article!

My mate, SaulK, has managed to kick out another podcast on the Digital Edge. This episode focuses on the Blogosphere and it’s definitely worth listening to it!
I have a small feature in it as well, so I HIGHLY recommend you head over and grab a copy of it!
It’s available here.

Don’t forget that today is also the last day you can vote in the SA Blog Awards. The Digital Edge is a finalist as well and I’m sure that guys would truly appreciate the last minute support in this voting round. Don’t forget to throw in a vote for DChetty.co.za who features in BEST NEW BLOG and BEST SCI & TECH BLOG!

Earlier this year, I posted a list of items that I felt were realistic resolutions to strive to achieve in 2009.
Its the end of March, which puts us squarely at the end of the first 1/4 of 2009 and I think that its a good idea to see how well am doing against my resolutions. Doing this has also allowed me to refocus on them and those items that are still outstanding will now be highlighted again.
I resolute to:
- Listen without saying anything for 20 minutes a day (Apparently, I have too little patience for stupid people and I need to listen more!) I’ve failed at this totally. It is something that I need to work on!
- Feed a poor child at least twice a month. I have been keeping to this resolution and will continue to do so.
- Help educate a poor child. I missed the cut off date to set up a scholarship, but I will make sure that I do this in time next year.
- Study something that aids my career. I am currently enrolled at Stellenbosch University for an MDP.
- Study something that adds value to my life without affecting my career. I have slacked off a bit, but I am learning Mandarin.
- Find a friend that I have forgotten about and catch up. Still need to do this.
- Stop judging the artsy fartsy type, some people are just weird. Eeerrrh… do I HAVE to do this?
- Fix this thing called “my health”. I’ve bought a bicycle. That’s it! :s
- Spend more time outside. I have tried, I swear!
In 2009 I will greatly reduce the intake of: (not GIVE UP, just reduce!)
- Softdrinks (That whole theory that Coke adds life, is balls!) I now drink massive amounts of water. Soft drink intake has been reduced greatly. I don’t see any results… but I guess its the right thing to do.
- Chocolate bars (Happens rarely anyway, so less is bonus!) Done!
- White bread (Wheat and Grain is the way!) Not Done!
- Fries (Nando’s wedges is better anyway!) Done!
- Chilli (I’m Indian, so just know that this isn’t as easy it may sound!) Almost Done!
- Energy drinks (Those things are designed for athletes and not for people who have parts that wobble when they laugh!) Done!
In 2009 I will greatly increase the intake of:
- Tea I have become a bloody tea ADDICT!
- Cucumber (lol) Not Done!
- Peaches Not Done!
- Fresh Grapes Not Done!
- Whole grain bread Not Done!
- Water Done!
- Veggies Done!

Earth Hour is a WWF initiative designed to create awareness of the effect that Global Warming has on the world and highlights the fact that we can make a difference, even if its just by individuals putting off all the lights for 1 hour across the world.
In South Africa, Earth Hour will take place at 20:30 till 21:30 on the 28th March 2009. I don’t belong to any organization and I am not a Green Peace junky, but I am concerned about the effect that global warming will have on us and it bothers me that we, as individuals are so careless and ignore the problem.

Earth Hour needs as many people to sign up as possible, as they will use these names as part of a world wide petition in the fight to have policy adjustments made at world forums, like the UN meetings, etc.
I have signed up and I challenge as many of my readers as possible to sign up.
But my bigger challenge to the blogging world is simple. Replace your blog with a plain black screen for the duration of Earth Hour. Its a simple challenge, but I hope that it will be an effective one, if we can get as many bloggers to join in and help create awareness.
I will also ask that you bloggers post a small article explaining the challenge to your readers as a black screen alone will only create confusion and the blog post will generate the awareness.
Drop a link to your blog in the comments so that we can keep track of all those who have stepped up to the Earth Hour Blogger Challenge.

I started blogging less than a year ago when I was inspired by my good mate ChrisM who runs iMod when he won an SA Blog Award.
My blog and I have been through a lot this last year and seen its ups and downs, but one thing remained constant, my determination to get to the SA Blog Awards and win!

Thanks to so many of my loyal supporters, I have been nominated in TWO categories in the 2009 SA Blog Awards: Best New Blog and Best Science & Technology Blog. I am eternally grateful for so many who have thought that I deserve to compete on this level and I am VERY proud of my blog.
The final round of the competition is a numbers game and the most votes comes out the victor and again I will not be able to win this without the support of my ardents readers and supporters.
Please vote for me in both these categories by following these steps:
- Visit the SA Blog Awards Site
- Select DChetty.co.za under the Best New Blog and the Best Science & Technology sections
- Enter you email address and submit
- Confirm your nomination by clicking on the link in your email account.
Its that simple!
Some of my other work in the last year has seen me feature on the Mail & Gaurdian owned blog called Techleader with my article titled, ” The Future of the Web is Contextual!”
and my recent article on MoralFibre where I reviewed a coffee shop.

The rumour mill has been rife with reports of Sony and Ericsson parting ways, though the company bosses have done a good job of taming the media with their denials.
But now, more than ever, it looks as though the split is not too far away as Sony looks to own a full stake of the company and Ericsson looks to take its investment cash and go somewhere else.

Will this benefit the company and will this allow Sony the freedom to develop handsets with features that have wowed the world, much like its Bravia range of TV’s, the Walkman, the Playstation, etc?
Infact, could this mean afully fledged gaming device in the form of a PSP mobile device soon?
Only time will tell!
