iPad OS update – iOS4.2 – What Apple forgot to include for the iPad launch!

So you have checked out just how cool the iPad can be used as part of an orchestra and by now you would have come across at least one person bragging about how cool the iPad really is. The truth though, and this is from an iPad user, is that it hasn’t been THAT cool because of one VERY obvious flaw in the iPad so far, multi-tasking!

Apple launched multi-tasking with iOS4 in the Apple iPhone a short while ago and we all expected the same multi-tasking functionality to be included in the iPad, but much to our #ShockHorror it didn’t launch with it.

Sooooo, since I’ve started using the iPad, I must admit that I have not been totally swooned by it, but I guess it’s because I am still totally loving my MacBook Pro and I have not been placed in a situation where the iPad would have been a better tool over my MBP.

Aaaanyway, so the schmucks at Apple that robbed us all of multi-tasking have scurried off and come back with their latest version of iOS4 in the form of Apple iPad iOS4.2. It now supports multi-tasking (well done chaps!) and wireless printing, called AirPrint, which is seriously cool. Expected to hit iTunes auto-updates in November.

Some other nifty upgrades in the iPad OS4.2 release include:

App Folders: This allows users to group apps into folders, thus avoiding too many pages of apps. This is super nifty when you have 8 screens of apps (like me) and need to group your apps into themes like, Productivity, Games, etc. They do limit the number of apps per folder though, which kinda sucks, but 20 apps per folder is usable, I guess!

Font inclusion of Helvetica: Not the most exciting feature, but its in there for a reason, right?

Game Centre: Much like the Game Centre on the iPhone, its laced with game titles that have you redirected to the App Store if you click on one of them.

Unified Mail box: This is a no-brainer, it basically creates a single inbox overlaying all your mail accounts. Pretty cool for folk with many mailboxes and who go through lots of mail every day.

P.S. I couldn’t get my own pics, so I “borrowed” them from that famous site ending in MODO and starting with GIZ. You know it!
