So you have checked out just how cool the iPad can be used as part of an orchestra and by now you would have come across at least one person bragging about how cool the iPad really is. The truth […]

So you have checked out just how cool the iPad can be used as part of an orchestra and by now you would have come across at least one person bragging about how cool the iPad really is. The truth though, and this is from an iPad user, is that it hasn’t been THAT cool because of one VERY obvious flaw in the iPad so far, multi-tasking!

Apple launched multi-tasking with iOS4 in the Apple iPhone a short while ago and we all expected the same multi-tasking functionality to be included in the iPad, but much to our #ShockHorror it didn’t launch with it.

Sooooo, since I’ve started using the iPad, I must admit that I have not been totally swooned by it, but I guess it’s because I am still totally loving my MacBook Pro and I have not been placed in a situation where the iPad would have been a better tool over my MBP.

Aaaanyway, so the schmucks at Apple that robbed us all of multi-tasking have scurried off and come back with their latest version of iOS4 in the form of Apple iPad iOS4.2. It now supports multi-tasking (well done chaps!) and wireless printing, called AirPrint, which is seriously cool. Expected to hit iTunes auto-updates in November.

Some other nifty upgrades in the iPad OS4.2 release include:

App Folders: This allows users to group apps into folders, thus avoiding too many pages of apps. This is super nifty when you have 8 screens of apps (like me) and need to group your apps into themes like, Productivity, Games, etc. They do limit the number of apps per folder though, which kinda sucks, but 20 apps per folder is usable, I guess!

Font inclusion of Helvetica: Not the most exciting feature, but its in there for a reason, right?

Game Centre: Much like the Game Centre on the iPhone, its laced with game titles that have you redirected to the App Store if you click on one of them.

Unified Mail box: This is a no-brainer, it basically creates a single inbox overlaying all your mail accounts. Pretty cool for folk with many mailboxes and who go through lots of mail every day.

P.S. I couldn’t get my own pics, so I “borrowed” them from that famous site ending in MODO and starting with GIZ. You know it!

How to customise swipe, tap and click actions on a Magic Mouse!

I became a Mac fan boy very recently and the theory of “Once you go Mac, you won’t go back!” is very clear to me now. I am totally in love with my MacBook Pro Unibody. When I got my Magic Mouse, I was blown away with its sheer design elegance and loved the idea of a touch interface on a mouse.

Sadly though, Apple screwed up with the settings of the Magic Mouse, its very slow and not very intuitive in terms of customisable settings. I have since been using an application called BetterTouchTool as recommended to me on Twitter and I was slightly more impressed with swipe customisation on the Magic Mouse.

I have just come across an app called MagicPrefs, which unleashes the Magic Mouse to its full potential and allows for seamingly endless customisation of two, three and four finger swipes, taps and scrolls. The mouse is now completely amazing and I am going to have a real hard time using any other mouse now.

My favourite is settings are the ability to increase the track speed and the ability to add applications to specific click types.

The UI for the preferences is really cool with LIVE CUSTOMISATION tweaking allowed, which basically allows you to view your swipes or taps on screen as you assign it a function.

The application will show up in the System Preferences window as shown below

The Top menu icon and menu is very handy as well and has quite a few intuitive settings that are easy to get to.

The application is ery lightweight and the install file is only 1.2MB including the installer and you can download MagicPrefs from the webpage on Apple’s site.

I highly recommend this application for all Magic Mouse users!

Nokia release its latest version of Nokia Messaging for Social Networks and it now includes Facebook and Twitter.

Nokia Messaging for Social Networks is the latest release of Nokia Messaging which is available for the Nokia N97, N97 mini and the 5800, which in short means, all Symbian S60 Version 5 devices within the Nokia stable.

I have been a fan of the Nokia Messaging application and even went as far as rating it as a Nokia N97 application worth using!

What’s even cooler about this release, is that I have a short feature in the launch video. Watch it and look out for my Twitter account as the first tweet!

I feature from 41 seconds to about 54 seconds. If you don’t follow me on Twitter already, you probably missing out. I go as @DChetty, so check it out!

The latest application now supports full Twitter and Facebook integration and allows simple, yet useful features like the ability to export Facebook events to the Nokia’s native calendar. The latest app supports full home-screen access and pulls data directly from your Facebook and Twitter accounts.

It’s very nifty and I recommend it as a potential Beta Labs winner!

The Nokia 5800 Express Music gets repackaged as the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition...

The Nokia 5800 Express Music was Nokia’s first major consumer targeted phone to sport a full touchscreen. Sporting Symbians latest OS S60 Version 5, which is the same as the Nokia N97, the phone has become a retail dream and selling like hot cakes globally with it’s “Comes With Music” campaign, which saw handsets shipped with a few music tracks on them.

They have reworked the device and replaced the “Comes With Music” edition with a “Navigation” edition. Basically packaging a lifetime voice navigation license with the Nokia Maps and changing wallpapers and themes, the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is set to hit stores in the 3rd quarter of this year at about $410.
